Jen, originally from Atlanta, GA, has a BFA in Acting from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. After gradution, Jen moved to NYC and she’s been here ever since! While studying long-form improv comedy with the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theatre and performing on one of their house teams, Jen bought a Big Briar Etherwave Theremin and began to teach herself how to play. Her mad there-skillz improved with experience while playing around the city with the bands Katie Brennan and the Holy Bones, Omri, and Stickerbook. Jen began performing solo in April of 2006 with a debut performance with the NY Theremin Society. After a while, Jen realized that she could only improve futher with the help of an educational institution. In the Spring of 2007, she began studying as a Theremin Major in the [A Paradigm of Higher Learning Specializing in Classical Music Education]. This blog was born to document her experiences at [A Paradigm of Higher Learning Specializing in Classical Music Education]. Thanks for stopping by!

    Hello Jen,

I’m a freelance videojournalist and I’m working on a series of stories about inventive/creative people called Geek World. The videos focus on characters who passionately work on their craft(s). We use the phrase, “Geek” loosely because we are not seeking tech stories as much as we’re focusing on people who know what they’re talking about and can walk us through a little slice of their world.

If you’re available I would like to speak to you about the possibility of interviewing you for one of the upcoming GeekWorld episodes. I am especially interested in your work on the Theremin, which strikes me as beautiful and intriguing instrument. The interview would take about an hour and the final product would be a short web video and a possible written profile.

I’m based in Long Island City and would love to hear your thoughts. Please feel free to write back or call me at either of the numbers listed below.

    Cheers,
    Matt

    Hi Jen,

I’ve been following your blog with great interest since the beginning. My university music experience was very similar to yours, albeit as a pianist not as a thereminist. Anyway, I’ve been playing a lot more theremin these days, and am interested in meeting you next time I am in NYC, and perhaps doing some collaboration?
